We always loved to meet up with Uncle Paul when we were in San Diego. He was a great conversationalist with a rich life full of wonderful stories to tell. His love for travel was contagious. We miss him.

Mr. Andersen was too cool for words. A truly unforgettable teacher.

Paul was one of my master teachers while I was student teaching at Gompers Magnet (during the years when Gompers was the leading Science Program in the San Diego Unified School District). He was always encouraging, and he allowed me the freedom to try unique new methods in reaching the students. He truly was a mentor and the most admired science teacher on that campus. I have one more year of teaching before I retire. Paul started me on my exciting teaching journey over 30 years ago. He was an inspiration to me, and I've carried many of his life lessons with me both in and outside the classroom. A teacher never knows completely what effect he has on his students in the short or long term. I can say with complete confidence that Paul will live on in terms of his values, knowledge, and zest for life that he lovingly instilled in both his colleagues, students, friends, and family. I was honored to know him.

He was my favorite high school teacher. I still try to follow his advice, from not showering too much (so I don't smell too much like everyone else) to carrying on an internal dialogue while conducting experiments (talking to myself). He is one of the main reasons I am a biologist.

Paul loved this life with a passion. He had amazing inner strength even when things seemed impossible. He will always be remembered.

Paul was a fascinating man and I'll miss him very much. He had a great sense of humour and a tremendous zest for life and what a life of adventure he had. We shared a love of bad jokes, puns and obscure words.

Paul was such a special person and an inspiration to many, including his nephew Jed. He will truly be missed, but always remembered.

Paul Andersen. An excellent man with an excellent mind. I looked up to Paul; he was somewhat of a mentor to me although I never told him that. He was proud of me for getting my degree in Botany and that was special to me. He was a good friend and a good cook. I will always remember our potlucks in the science prep room at Gompers and the good times shared by the science staff teachers and aides alike. I will carry his memory in my heart.

Mr. Andersen had a gift for teaching. In addition to his demand for quality and excellence, he also taught me the importance of spelling his last name correctly (it was once a test question !), being mindful of the beauty in nature, and the art of storytelling. He helped us all feel capable, confident, and inspired by science. He was fair, honest, and vigilant when it came to ethical and responsible behavior. After finishing AP Bio in 1988 at Gompers, I went on to study science, earn a Masters in Physical Therapy, and now teach future health care providers with, what I can only hope, will be with the same enthusiasm and expertise I experienced in his class. Thank you, Mr AnderSEN
