Paul Albert Kamholz was born July 18, 1933 in Chicago, Illinois and passed away peacefully December 18, 2014 with his family at his bedside in Escondido, CA. He was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Regina “Jean” (nee Casey), mother, Mary Forman (nee Valentino), and father Paul Kamholz. Paul is survived by sons Paul (Lorraine), Jeff (Krysti), and his daughters Patti and Kathi, as well as grandchildren Erika, Allison, Casey, Madelyn and Haley, and many cousins. After graduating from Steinmetz High School in Chicago, Paul served two stints in the United States Air Force, receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1960. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Redlands in California while enjoying a successful career in finance with several defense contractors, ultimately retiring from Honeywell. Strong, stoic and generally soft-spoken, he had an amazing way of getting the family kids, cousins and friends to “do the right thing” with just one “Dad” look. A man of dignity and integrity, he was a very hard-working man that led by example and garnered extraordinary respect. There is no better example of the love and compassion he had than when “Papa” spent time with the grandkids; they were his true joy. A very skilled athlete in his day, Paul enjoyed watching his Lakers and Chargers until Alzheimer’s disease overtook his body. Paul was an easy man to love unconditionally. We will miss you, Dad. We love you, Papa. Services will be held at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Poway, CA on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Oak Hill Residential Community in Escondido, CA (http://www.oakhillresidential.org/donations_needed0.aspx), the Alzheimer’s Association (http://www.alz.org/sandiego/in_my_community_62640.asp), or the Shiley-Marcos Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center at UC San Diego (http://adrc.ucsd.edu/givenow.html)
