Phillip will always be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He touched the lives of many with his kindness, quiet strength, unwavering work ethic, and deep love for his family.
Born on November 6, 1943, in San Diego, California, Phillip was the son of Tom and Marie Carniglia. He embraced the Southern California lifestyle and had a lifelong love for the outdoors and growing up in San Diego. In his younger years, he enjoyed riding horses, surfing, playing tennis, and spending time in the desert, especially at Glamis. He was known for being incredibly handy, always willing to lend a helping hand, and for his wonderful sense of humor. Above all, he treasured the time he spent with family and friends and the memories they created together.
Phillip is survived by his two sons, Jay Carniglia and his wife, Jina, along with their sons, Garrett and Ely; and Troy Carniglia and his son, Quinn. He is also survived by his siblings, August, Mia, and Maryann, as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will miss him deeply.
A private family visitation will be held on Thursday, July 9, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at El Camino Memorial Park in San Diego. A reception will immediately follow from 1:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
