Rafael Dela Cruz Isturiz, “Tatay Paeng” was born on July 28th,1931 in Balete, Aklan Philippines. Tatay became wedded on January 27th,1958 with eleven children in total. He worked almost every job that was available to him, such as: working abroad as a Merchant Marine, or even as a chef on the tanker ships. He loved to cook different international cuisines and travel around the world. He supported his family to the fullest, providing his kids a path towards a higher education.
He made his journey to America in 1997 and worked 2 jobs to continue supporting his family in the Philippines. He was highly respected and well-admired for his work ethic by his acquaintances for working back-to-back jobs at McDonalds and Taco Bell. The combination of his hard work and the love for his family helped him pave the way to bring half the family over to the US with him.
Tatay wasn't a quitter, he was a fighter; when his illness became apparent to him, he devoted all his efforts to prolong his time with his loved ones. He fought tirelessly for the last 2+ years, even as far as recently getting a valve transplant to help alleviate the issue. But, months after this operation Tatay Paeng had passed away in his home on April 11th, 2021. He did not pass on alone; he was surrounded by his loved ones in his final moments.
Rafael Dela Cruz Isturiz; we, your family, your legacy, will carry on with the memories you've left us and the lessons you've taught us. We're grateful for the compassion and unconditional love that you've given us. Farewell Tay: we love you; you will forever be in our hearts.
Until we meet again.
