Randy was born in 1943 in Eau Claire, Wisconsin to the late Marion and Mildred Erickson. After attending the University of Wisconsin and earning his B.S. in 1965, he enlisted in the Marine Corps and served our country in the Vietnam War. Following active duty, he then joined the Reserves, rising to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He graduated from Duke University Law School in 1971 and practiced environmental and construction law, most recently at Crowell and Moring in Irvine, California where he was managing partner. Randy was named a Southern California Super Lawyer multiple times and received national recommendations for his mediation and arbitration practice.
A man of wit and words, Randy will be remembered for his sense of humor and infectious laughter. He enjoyed spending time outside in the California sunshine, watching and playing sports, listening to rock and roll, and reading. He was the author of three published books and completed a fourth book during his retirement. He dedicated many years to service as a group member and sponsor in Alcoholics Anonymous, helping countless individuals heal and recover from alcohol addiction. Randy always said that it was better to be lucky than good but, in his life he was both.
Randy is survived by his wife Carol, three children, Steven, Elizabeth and Zachary, granddaughter Emilia, and many friends and colleagues.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made military families in need, specifically to Semper Fi & America’s Fund in Randy’s memory.
