Raquel Garcia Ibarra

Raquel “Nena” Garcia Ibarra nació en 1926 en Granite City, Illinois. Pasó sus primeros años

viajando con sus padres de ciudad en ciudad en la epoca de la fiebre del oro. A la edad de 6

años se estableció con su familia en México. Las siguientes 2 décadas las pasó

asistiendo a la escuela, graduándose de la escuela secretarial, y ayudando a cuidar a sus

hermanos, y poco después iniciar su propia familia.

En la edad de sus veintes, regresó a los Estados Unidos, donde trabajó

incansablemente para proveer lo necesario para sus hijos, frecuentemente tuvo que

trabajar en diferentes lugares para mantener a su familia. Logró Obtener un trabajo en la

tienda “The Broadway” que con el paso del tiempo se convirtió en uno de sus lugares

favoritos para hacer sus compras. Cuando no estaba trabajando, se mantenía

ocupada soñando con todo los lugares a los cuales quería viajar y conocer, incluyendo

Europa, particularmente Inglaterra, aunque no había otro lugar más importante para

visitar que su lugar de nacimiento, Granite City, Illinois. Tuvo la oportunidad de viajar a

muchos lugares, incluyendo Las Vegas, Laughling, Arizona, Pensilvania, Mississippi y

las Cataratas del Niágara tanto en Estados Unidos como en Canada.

Aún con sus grandes sueños de viajar, su primera prioridad fue siempre su

familia. Lo más probable es que dijera de si misma que su mayor logro fue la familia que

ella creo. Se mantuvo muy ocupada en sacar adelante a sus 5 hijos, 13 nietos, 13

bisnietos y 2 tataranietos. Su nombre de cariño era “Ita”, fue el ejemplo ideal de una

matriarca de una familia. Hizo de su vida la misión de cuidar, amar, enseñar y educar a cada

miembro de su familia. Su casa servía como lugar de reunión para toda la familia y muy

seguido se llenava de niños a los que les encantaba jugar en su hermoso jardín mientras el

resto de la familia se turnaban alrededor de la mesa para disfrutar de los platillos deliciosos

que la hicieron famosa.

Su manera de Cocinar es leyenda, asi como su creatividad para hacer lo que a ella

le gustaba. En su tiempo libre disfrutaba mucho de diferentes manualidades y

pasatiempos. Dentro de sus favoritos estaban tejer y mantener su jardín. Tejia hermosos

juegos para su casa en todos los colores que te puedas imaginar para cada dia del mes, tan

grandes 0 pequeños como ella quería. Cuando terminanaba con eso seguía con botitas,

suéteres, guantes, bufandas y casi de todo para su nietos. Cuando terminaba se salía a cuidar de su

hermoso jardín. Cuidaba de cada flor, planta y árbol con el mismo amor y paciencia

como lo hacia todo en su vida.

Raquel siempre creyó y tuvo fe en Dios, pero en el año de 1970 se consagró a

Jehová Dios por medio del Bautismo.

Amelia Raquel, Ita, Nena, te extrañaremos más de los que podemos expresar.

Permanecerás siempre en nuestras mentes y corazones. Conocerte es un honor, porque

eres una de las almas más bellas que han pasado por esta tierra y esperamos tu regreso en

el tiempo de la Resurrección.

Raquel "Nena" Garcia Ibarra was born in 1926 in Granite City, IL. She spent her earliest years traveling with her

parents from small town to small town chasing the gold rush of the era. At the age of 6 she settled with her

family in Mexico. She spent the next 2 decades going to school, completing secretarial trade school, helping to

care for her siblings and soon after…starting her own family.

In her late 20's she returned to the United States where she worked tirelessly to provide for her

children, often working several jobs at a time in order to care for her family. At one point in time she gained a

position at the local department store "The Broadway" which would later serve as one of her favorite shopping

destinations. When she wasn't hard at work she was busy dreaming of all the places she wanted to travel to and

visit including Europe, particularly England. However, there was no other place she would have loved to visit

more than her birthplace, Granite City, IL. She did have the opportunity to travel to many places including Las

Vegas, Laughlin, Arizona, Pennsylvania, Mississippi and the Niagara Falls on both the US side and the Canadian

side.

As much as she was a dreamer of traveling, her first priority was always family. She would probably say

about herself that her greatest accomplishment was the family she built. She had a hand in raising 5 Children,

13 Grandchildren, 13 Great Grandchildren and 2 Great-Great Grandchildren. Affectionately referred to as "Ita"

she was the ideal example of a family's Matriarch. She made it her life's mission to care for, love, teach, and

nurture each and every one of them. Her home would serve as the gathering place for the family, often

swarming with children who loved playing in her beautiful garden, while the rest of the family would take turns

sitting around the table eating all the delicious dishes she was so famous for.

Her cooking was legendary… As were her creative skills. On her down time she very much enjoyed

different crafts and hobbies. Among her favorite's were crocheting and gardening. She would crochet a set of

beautiful accents for her home in every color you could dream of, for every day of the month, as big or as small

as she wanted. When that was done she would move on to make booties, sweaters, mittens, scarves and just

about anything else for her Grandkids. When that was done she would move outside to tend to her beautiful

garden. She would care for each of her flowers, plants, and trees with the same love and patience as everything

else in her life.

Raquel always believed and had faith in God but it was in 1970 that she was dedicated to Jehovah God through

baptism.

Amelia Raquel, Ita, Nena, you will be missed more than words can express. You are always in our

thoughts and forever in our hearts. To have known you is truly an honor, as you are one of the most beautiful

souls to have walked this earth and we await your return at the time of the resurrection.
