
Raymond Lawrence Edwards, born to Charles A. and Beulah O. Edwards on August 5, 1926 in Evansville, IN was one of 20 children left this earthly world on May 3, 2014. Raymond attended Third Avenue Elementary school and Lincoln High School. After graduating from Lincoln High School, he joined the U.S. Navy. The U. S. Navy stationed Raymond in Long Beach, CA. He met his wife Katherine, a mother of two small children. He became a father to Annie Marie (deceased 06-08-13) and Joseph Ray. The family would later settle down in San Diego, CA and begin making lasting memories. In the U.S. Navy, he was promoted up the ranks to Chief during his 25 years of proud service to his country. Raymond rightfully earned countless medals, awards and certificates for his unwavering dedication and work. Raymond continued his welding training in the U.S. Navy that he started in his youth in high school. After retiring from the U.S. Navy with honor in 1974, he became employed at a civilian company where was a welder for 18 years. Raymond returned to the Catholic Church. He became a member of Mission de Alcala and later Holy Family. He volunteered countless hours of his time at each church, while he was a member. He also volunteered at two hospitals: Sharp Memorial and Scripps Mercy, going to pray with Catholic patients at bedside.
His home was “home” to many of his nieces and nephews in the military or to family who traveled to San Diego.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine, May 8, 2010.
We say good bye to Raymond Lawrence Edwards father of Annie Marie (deceased) and Joseph Ray. Also the grandfather of Marta, Philip, Erich and Brandy. He will definitely be missed by siblings: George Edwards, Rancho Mirage CA: Walter Edwards, Anderson IN; Herbert (Bert) Edwards, Evansville IN; Beulah Williams, Compton CA; Sudie Easley, Orange County, CA and Vera Gilbert, Evansville IN. He is also the uncle of too many nieces and nephews to list as well as cousins and friends that will miss him dearly.
