San Diego Calif.
Born August 3rd, 1921 died March 21, 2014.
Raymond A Gagnon Sr, passed away peacefully in his home in Santee, surrounded by family after suffering a stroke, at the age of 92. Raymond was an Army Veteran, and an avid outdoorsman, often fishing and camping in the local mountains of San Diego, with his son Raymond and great grandson Tyler. Ray left the military after being injured, to become a Tuna Fisherman in the late 1940’s. In the mid 1950’s he left tuna fishing to pursue what he loved most, and became a well-respected carpenter and handyman for decades in the Point Loma Community. Ray was also a member of the Knights of Columbus in Ocean Beach, and a parishioner of Saint Charles Borromeo Church in Point Loma. Ray retired from working at the age of 80 as he was no longer able to drive. Ray is survived by two sons Alfred Gagnon and Raymond Gagnon Jr, and two step children, Clarice Acosta and Leandro Corriea, many grandchildren, as well as many great grandchildren, Ray was affectionately known to his grandkids as “POPPY”. Ray will join his wife and friends in heaven, and will be the guardian angel for his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Ray will be put to rest at the Fort Rosecrans Cemetery, with his beloved wife Margret who passed away in 1964. The family has one last message for POPPY. “Rest in peace “POPPY” we love you and we will always miss you, thanks for all the memories”. Our family would also like to thank the Scripps Hospice family for all the wonderful care and work they put in to making “POPPY’S” final days at home as comfortable as possible.
