Mrs. Rhea Marie Goodjohn

Mrs. Rhea Marie Goodjohn, age 92, of Carlsbad, California, died peacefully on Tuesday, July 19, 2022 surrounded by loving family. Her devoted husband, Dr. Albert J. Goodjohn, preceded her in death in 2000. Both Rhea and Albert were born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, Canada where they met as teenagers and married when Rhea was 20 years old.

Rhea was born on May 26,1930 to Andrew Michael Deibert and Johanna Weisbeck-Deibert, both of whom departed many years ago. She had two sisters, Marilyn Craigie and Alma Deibert, and one brother, James Deibert, all three of whom have passed. Rhea was a teenager when her mother became gravely ill, so she and her sister Marilyn tended to her and the family.

Creativity and hand crafts were natural gifts for Rhea. She won a state fair competition with a picture box flower composition created with seashells in her teens and lovingly sewed many articles of clothing for her family. Her creative streak continued to develop throughout the years, and she created tiny mouse houses and silk flower arrangements to sell on consignment. In 1985, after honing her skill and growing her list of clientele, Rhea and her daughter Susan opened a successful silk floral design and fine gifts shop, Windsor Rose of La Costa. She cheerfully tended to the store and became a friend to many of her customers during their frequent visits.

As a devoted wife and mother, Rhea provided daily family care to her six children. She continuously searched for ways to improve their development and well-being. As much as her husband was a nuclear physicist, her role was as a domestic engineer. She enjoyed gardening, reading, and chatting with her friends.

Rhea will be missed by her daughters and sons-in-law, Susan Goodjohn and John Gonnason, Jennifer Sara, Christine and Matt Dotson; sons and daughters-in law, Drew Goodjohn, James and Tina Goodjohn, Michael and April Goodjohn; grandchildren David, Tony, Matthew, Jessica, Christopher, Kyle, Michael, AmberMae, AvaLee, John, and Ruthie; and great-grandchildren Bryan, Dylan, Taylor, Cooper, Jax, and Emily.
