Rob lived a life defined by service, purpose, and an unwavering commitment to uplifting others. Whether on the battlefield, in the boardroom, or around the family table, he devoted himself fully to the people and causes he believed in. His legacy endures in the family he cherished, the lives he shaped, the leaders he developed, and the countless individuals inspired by his courage, humility, and selfless dedication.
Rob, a decorated Navy SEAL Chief and 25-year United States Navy veteran, spent 21 years in the SEAL Teams, including more than a decade with the renowned SEAL Team Six. As a member of one of the nation’s most elite counterterrorism and maritime interdiction units, he participated in covert operations worldwide during some of the most demanding periods in recent history. His service reflected steadfast dedication, personal sacrifice, and an unwavering commitment to the nation he served.
Yet despite his military accomplishments, Rob would want to be remembered not for what he did, but for who he was.
He was a devoted son, brother, and, most importantly, father and grandfather, whose greatest source of fulfillment was his family. He believed leadership began at home and understood that a person’s lasting imprint lives on in the people they help shape. He loved without reservation, gave freely of his time and energy, and stood firmly beside those fortunate enough to call him family or friend.
After retiring from military service, Rob embraced a second mission: helping others realize their potential. As the founder of Trident Coaching and Consulting, he translated leadership principles forged in the SEAL Teams into practical lessons for executives, entrepreneurs, and organizations worldwide.
Through programs such as Leadership Under Fire, Battlefield to the Boardroom, and Execute with Discipline Leadership 365, Rob challenged leaders to question assumptions, earn trust, accept responsibility, and lead with integrity. His message resonated because it was authentic—he taught what he lived.
His influence reached thousands through keynote speeches, executive coaching, leadership development programs, and his writing. A multi-published author, sought-after speaker, and media contributor featured on Bloomberg TV, Fox News, NBC, Business Insider, and Inc., Rob became a respected voice on leadership, resilience, culture, and human performance.
Despite his achievements, he remained a lifelong student. At the time of his passing, Rob was pursuing his PhD in Industrial and Organizational Psychology, along with a master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and Clinical Counseling. He believed growth is a continual process and that understanding people is among life’s most meaningful pursuits.
His books, including The Art of War: Leadership Lessons from a Navy SEAL and his forthcoming works Rubik’s Cube for the Human Mind and Its Culture, Not Color: Where Do I Fit In, reflected his dedication to helping others cultivate awareness, confidence, accountability, and purpose.
What made Rob truly distinctive was his ability to connect. Whether speaking to a room of CEOs, mentoring a young leader, supporting a teammate, or spending time with family, he had a gift for making people feel valued and capable of more than they believed possible. He motivated others not through rank or reputation, but through sincerity, humility, and the example he set every day.
His influence endures in the leaders he guided, the organizations he helped strengthen, the teammates who served alongside him, the books he authored, and the family and friends who carry his memory forward. He showed that leadership is measured less by command than by contribution, less by accolades than by stewardship, and less by individual success than by the growth it inspires in others.
Robert “Chief” Roy lived in service to something greater than himself. Father. Friend. Teacher. Mentor. Author. Leader. Warrior.
Though his absence is deeply felt, his presence endures in the values he passed down, the confidence he instilled in others, and the example he set through a lifetime of service. The lessons he taught continue to guide, the relationships he nurtured continue to strengthen, and the lives he touched continue to carry his influence forward. Rob would say that his latest book will change the way you see yourself and show up for everything else; it’s all about alignment.
The measure of a life is not in the years it spans, but in the difference it makes. By that measure, Rob’s impact is immeasurable. His legacy lives on in those who strive to lead with integrity, serve with purpose, and leave the world better than they found it—just as he did.
Rob is survived by his son, Adrian Roy; his daughters, Emille, Ryenn & Rylee Roy; and his beloved grandson, Oliver Roy-Cowan.
In addition to his family, Rob leaves behind a brotherhood of teammates, colleagues, and friends around the world who were honored to know him.
Rob’s celebration of life will be held at Cypress View Mausoleum, located at 3953 Imperial Avenue at S 40th Street in San Diego. Services will begin at 1:00 pm, followed by a brief visitation with family and friends until 3:30 pm. The service will be livestreamed and can be found at www.facebook.com/CypressView
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly invites donations to the Rob “Chief” Roy Leadership Scholarship Fund. These scholarships will ensure that Rob’s legacy of leadership, service, and commitment to helping others continues to inspire future generations. The family is in the process of establishing the fund. Those interested in supporting the fund may leave their contact information at the Celebration of Life or email [email protected] to receive donation details once the fund is finalized.
Fair winds and following seas, Chief. Your watch is complete, but your legacy endures.
