Robert E. Bennett (Bob) CDR USN (Ret.) passed away on Sunday, July 1, 2018 of natural causes. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 66 years, Jan, five children (Brooks, Holly, Peter, Scott, and Chris), and seven grandchildren (Hampton, Zachery, Casey, Karla, Carly, Samantha, and Robert). Bob was born in Crosby, Minnesota, was a lifelong Vikings fan, and spent 30 years as a distinguished Naval Aviator retiring as a Commander in June 1975 from active duty. He served in both the Korean and Vietnam wars, receiving the Distinguished Flying Cross in both engagements. Bob received the Bronze Star during his two tours in Vietnam. He earned 14 Air medals during his tours of duty for his country. He was also a proud member of the distinguished Golden Eagles organization for pioneer naval aviators. Bob loved being part of the San Diego Porsche Club, traveling the world, building models, woodworking, caring for his antique clocks, his monthly poker group and catching up with all his squadron buddies at annual Tailhook gatherings. The memorial service will be held on Monday, July, 16th at 9:30AM at Miramar National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please give a donation to the Wounded Warrior Project.
