Robert Sables was born on June 5, 1938 in Scranton, Pennsylvania. He served as a Probation Officer for the City of New York for twenty years. He was also a Social Worker for the Navy's Family Advocacy Unit in San Diego. He retired a Lieutenant Colonel from the U.S. Army Reserve in 1998. Upon retirement, he began researching and writing about U.S. Naval history for Sea Classics.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Delia Catherine. He has three surviving children, Billy, Jackie and Robert and predeceased by his daughter, Delia Kelly. Mr. Sables has five grandchildren, John, Richie, Amir, Keara and Liam.
A viewing will be held June 29, 2016 at Beardsley-Mitchell Funeral Home, 1818 Sunset Cliffs Blvd. between 4:00 and 7:00 p.m. Services will be held on June 30, 2016 at Sacred Heart Church in Ocean Beach at 10 a.m. Interment will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery, 4470 Hilltop Dr, San Diego, at 2:00 p.m.
