Roberto “Roy” Alarcon was born on December 8, 1940, in Imus, Cavite, Philippines. From his earliest days, Roy's zest for life and deep love for family were evident to all who knew him. As the middle son of Eladio Caimol Alarcon and Francisca Esguera Cananay, Roy grew up with his brothers, Robledo and Vedasto always out and about building lifelong friendships with many in the community.
Driven by a dream to explore the world and create a brighter future for his loved ones, Roy took a bold step in 1961 and joined the U.S. Navy. His sense of adventure led him to serve on distinguished ships, including the USS Butte and USS Kitty Hawk. Roy’s military career spanned 27 years, during which he lived in places as far-flung as Guam, Cuba, Puerto Rico, New Jersey, and California. His travels allowed him to marvel at the beauty of Italy, Greece, Egypt, and the Panama Canal—experiences he cherished deeply and retold often through captivating stories.
Upon retiring as Chief in 1988, Roy’s restless spirit and dedication to service found a new chapter with the U.S. Postal Service, where he spent nine proud years delivering mail and connecting with countless people in his community. When he finally embraced full retirement, Roy filled his days with activities that brought him joy—gardening, golfing, taking long scenic drives, visiting casinos, following the stock market, watching boxing, and making regular trips back to the Philippines to see loved ones.
On August 27, 1966, Roy married the love of his life, Fely Gonzaga, and together they celebrated nearly six decades of unwavering partnership. He was a devoted father to his three daughters: Ruby, Maribel, and Rachel, and a proud grandfather to his four grandsons: Teryn, Jaeden, Ryan and Brady. Roy’s heart also fully embraced his sons-in-law, Joel, Gregg, and Jason, treating them as his own.
Roy never met a stranger as everyone he encountered quickly became a new friend. His gift for remembering names and faces was impressive, and his masterful storytelling kept friends and family enthralled for hours. He believed in the power of photographs to freeze precious moments, and encouraged learning and adventure, always eager to hear about the journeys his loved ones would undertake. His kindness, generosity, and infectious smile uplifted everyone around him. Roy’s enduring optimism and gentle spirit have left an indelible mark, and his legacy as a supportive husband, loving father and grandfather, and cherished friend will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
