

Ron was born on September 29, 1933, in Illinois to Charles and Eleanor Horndorf. He graduated from DePauw University in 1956 with a degree in Economics. While at DePauw he was a member of Delta Upsilon fraternity and he maintained lifelong friendships with several of his fraternity brothers. Following graduation, Ron joined the United States Navy, where he proudly served for three and a half years, reaching the commissioned officer rank of Lieutenant, Junior Grade.
On June 1, 1968, Ron married Patricia Warnecke. Shortly after their marriage, the couple moved west to San Diego where they built a life together. Over the years, Ron and Patricia split their time between Palm Desert and Rancho Bernardo. They especially enjoyed traveling together throughout the country and the world.
Ron spent the majority of his professional career working as a property appraiser, eventually starting his own business. He was a voracious reader who loved discussing current events with anyone who crossed his path. His curiosity, intellect and engaging conversation will be remembered by all who knew him.
Ron was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Patricia, and by his parents, Charles and Eleanor.
He is survived by his nephew Casey (Meg) Warnecke, niece Laurie (Bob) Jensen, niece Kelly (Kurt) Gruenfeld, nephew Bill (Cathy) Warnecke and nephew Ken (Jackie) Warnecke.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 11AM on Friday, June 12th, at El Camino Memorial – Sorrento Valley & Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Salvation Army or the American Red Cross.
