He was born on January 19, 1951, in Toledo, Ohio, to June and Fred Poulin, who preceded him in death. He grew up in Toledo alongside his brother, Fred, who survives him and resides in Georgia.
As a young man, Ronald joined the United States Navy and proudly served his country — a chapter of his life he deeply cherished. His service allowed him to travel to many parts of the world, and he loved sharing stories from those years with anyone who would listen. He loved the different types of food he was able to try.
While stationed in San Diego, California, Ronald met Mary. Meeting Mary changed his life. Together they built a life. From that love came their two daughters, Heather and Lindsey.
Like many families, their journey was not without challenges. During the early childhood years of his daughters, Ronald was not always present. But as his girls grew into their teenage years, he stepped back into their lives in a meaningful way. The later years brought healing, forgiveness, and a renewed bond. From that point forward, he made the effort to be there — to support them, to spend time together, and to build stronger relationships. The years that followed were filled with growth, understanding, and memories that would become deeply cherished, giving him new purpose.
Ronald was a hardworking man who showed love through action. A true handyman skilled in construction, he could fix just about anything. If something was broken, he would figure it out. He took pride in working with his hands and seeing the results of his effort. He was known for knowing a little about everything and always being willing to lend a hand.
He had a deep love for cars and especially loved his truck, keeping it polished and shining and taking pride in every detail. Working on vehicles brought him genuine joy.
Beyond his mechanical skills, Ronald had a softer side that many loved. He was a great cook and an even better baker, finding joy in preparing meals and sharing food with those he cared about. He also enjoyed sailing, fishing, and playing the guitar.
More than anything, Ronald loved being with his family.
Becoming a grandfather was one of his greatest joys. Heather blessed him with his granddaughter Giavonna, who later gave him two beautiful great-granddaughters, Aria and Amira. Lindsey, married to Larry Edwards, gave him five granddaughters — Makenna, Malia, Malorie, Malivia, and Mayra. He was incredibly proud of each one of them. Whether attending sporting events, cheering from the sidelines, or simply watching them grow, those moments meant everything to him. Being “Poppa” brought him immense warmth, joy, and purpose.
Family gatherings filled him with happiness. He loved the laughter, the noise, and simply being together. His presence brought comfort, and the time shared with him will forever be treasured.
Ronald leaves behind his devoted wife Mary; his brother Fred; his daughters Heather and Lindsey (Larry); his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a family who will carry his love forward.
His hands built many things in this life — homes, repairs, engines, meals, and memories — but the most meaningful thing he built over time were the relationships he nurtured and the love he shared.
He may be gone from our sight, but his lessons, his stories, his laughter, and even the familiar sound of his tools at work will live on in our hearts.
Gone fishing — with his truck shining and his tools close by.
