Rosenda Ravarra Ranches
March 2, 1926 – April 20, 2021
Rosenda Ravarra Ranches passed away peacefully at home on April 20, 2021 at the age of 95 surrounded by her family. It had been a wonderful weekend before she died when all her loved ones were there to see her and say how much she meant to each one of them. She showed her love and excitement by hugging, touching, and flashing her great smile. Rosenda was well known to all as a sweet, quiet, kind, yet an admirably strong woman.
She was born in Alaminos, Pangasinan, Philippines on March 2, 1926. In 1946, she married Atilano “Alex” Ranches who was living in the U.S. He was working as a cook after a short stint in the Navy. He was able to go back home and have four children: Carmelita, Atliano Jr., Ricardo, and Rosalie. Alex always wanted to bring his family to America and did so in August 1963. A fifth child, Roberto was born in San Diego where they settled until this day. Rosenda was a homemaker until the early 70’s when she went to work with some relatives as a Nurses Aide and later at Van Camp Seafood as a cannery worker.
When Alex and Rose retired, they were able to continue pursuing their passion for fishing and gardening full time. They fished Ocean Beach Pier for many years. They were well known by people who made the pier part of their exercise route and often stopped to chat and see what they’ve caught. They also grew beautiful vegetables in their backyard.
By the 80’s, their grandchildren started to grow by the numbers. So began another challenge. Sometimes babysitting four kids at a time, they helped raise kind and loving grandchildren who are now adults and most have families of their own. All this while still fishing and gardening. Yes that special weekend before she passed, even if her mind might not have fully comprehended, her heart knew she was fully loved. Rosenda Ranches is preceded in death by husband Atilano Ranches, son Atliano Ranches Jr. She is survived by daughter Carmelita (Artemio), son Ricardo (Elizabeth), Rosalie (Kevin, dec’d) and son Roberto (Ruth), eleven grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.
