

Roy Eldon Brinkley, age 84, passed away suddenly on December 27, 2024, after shoulder replacement surgery. Roy was born in Hayden, Colorado on January 31, 1940 to Mildred and Jay Brinkley. Roy enjoyed growing up in Colorado, fishing, hunting, and all outdoor activities. In high school he played football and was on the wrestling team. After graduating he joined the Navy. After 4 years he decided he would try going to Oklahoma University and study Architecture. But after a while he became restless and missing the Navy life, so he re-enlisted.
Roy served many tours during the Vietnam war. He was on the USS Dupont when it was shell struck in August 1967. Roy served with pride and honor as many Americans protested against war. He took immense pride in being a "tin can sailor". He enjoyed his life in the Navy, saying he sailed the seven seas and went to over 40 countries. He was even awarded ship handler of the year. He enjoyed being the Helmsman. After 30 years he finally decided it was time to retire as CWO4.
Roy and his family remained in San Diego and he soon decided he needed a second career. He was always a do it yourselfer so he got a job at Home Depot. There he would help people with their repairs and projects. He particularly enjoyed being the company griller on holiday cook outs at the store. Roy still enjoyed hunting and fishing. He and his wife Faye enjoyed their times on the lake and trips out deep-sea fishing.
Roy is proceeded in death by his wife, Faye Brinkley. He is survived by his sister Barbara Hansen, brother in law Bobby Wilson and his children Susan Brinkley, Steven Wilson, Sharon Williams and his three grandsons.
A memorial service is scheduled on January 31, 2025 at 10am at the Miramar National Cemetery. there will be a reception at the family home afterward.
