Roy Edwin Ledsome, Jr. was born December 6, 1939 in an area of Charleston, West Virginia known as Kanawha City - named for the river that runs through Charlestown. Roy was born to Catherine and Roy Edwin Ledsome, Sr. His father worked for Owens Illinois as a foreman. Catherine was a stay at home mom.
Roy, Jr. was a shy kid who attended catholic school in his early years but attended Charleston high school in his high school years and graduated from there in 1958.
In the early 70's the family moved to Circleville, Ohio where his father managed the Circleville operation of Owens Illinois. Roy, Jr. took a job there but after a while he realized the position did not suit him and his wanderlust got the better of him so he headed west to San Francisco where he moved in with a childhood friend from Charleston. After living in San Francisco, Chicago, St. Louis, Columbia, South Carolina and Miami he returned to Columbus, Ohio and worked various jobs until in 1976 he met Michael Kyle who was to be his partner and spouse for the next 40 years - residing together first in Columbus and then San Diego, California until Roy's passing on August 10, 2016. during their time together in San Diego, Roy worked for San Diego transit as a motor coach operator but retired in bad health in 2004. Prior to that while in Columbus he worked for Central Ohio Transit first as a motor coach operator then as an administrator in the marketing dept. He loved the field of transportation and spent forty years in the industry.
Roy loved telling stories which sometimes due to his Irish heritage were often "enhanced" for effect but nevertheless very entertaining.
Roy is survived by his spouse Michael S. Kyle of San Diego and his brother John Ledsome of Circleville, Ohio as well as cousins and their families in Charleston, West Virginia.
A celebration of Roy's life will be held Sunday September 18 at 2 pm at the residence of Russell Gooden and Steve Frank at 3595 31st St (corner 31st and Dwight St.) All are welcome to attend.
