Sandy G. Armstrong, 84, of San Diego, CA, passed away on January 28, 2026 with her beloved husband of 63 years, J. Ken Armstrong, 87, by her side.
Senovia (Sandy) Gloria Gallegos was born to Helen T. Gallegos (deceased), February 9, 1941, in Tecolote, New Mexico, joining older brothers Joe and Fernando Gallegos (both deceased). Sandy
graduated from West Las Vegas High School in 1958 and joined the US Marine Corps that same year, serving until 1961.
While in the Marines, Sandy was stationed at Camp Pendelton in Oceanside, CA, where she met
and later married James Kenneth Armstrong in Las Vegas, NM on April 19, 1962. Back in Oceanside, they welcomed their first child, daughter Elena Elizabeth, in 1962. After moving to San Diego, the trio welcomed a second daughter in 1964, Bonnie Dot (deceased). Their last child, son Anthony, was born in 1965. Sandy resided in San Diego until her passing. She is survived by husband Ken Armstrong, daughter Elena Harper (Escondido, CA), son Anthony Armstrong (Hinton, OK), five grandchildren, Rachael Armstrong (Escondido, CA), Annika Balsamo (Brooklyn, NY), C.J. Harper (San Diego, CA), Matthew Armstrong (Weatherford, OK), Emily Armstrong (Edmond, OK), and two great-grandchildren Cordelia Rose Harper (San Diego, CA) and Clayton Balsamo (Brooklyn, NY). Also leaving behind half-brother, Roque Encinias (Las Vegas, NM).
For Sandy, nothing was more important than time spent with family and friends. She prioritized the well-being and needs of others above her own. Cooking was her language of love, which she always shared at family gatherings. She was passionate about her roots and visited New Mexico often throughout her lifetime. Sandy was dedicated to her Catholic faith. In 2004, she was proud to participate with her husband in the Order of Celebrating Matrimony, which includes a "Blessing of a Married Couple within Mass on the Anniversary of Marriage," allowing them to publicly renew their commitment within the Catholic Church.
A visitation will be held on February 27, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at El Camino Memorial - Sorrento Valley, located at 5600 Carroll Canyon Rd., San Diego, CA 92121.
The funeral service will follow on the same day from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm at the same venue.
A committal service will take place afterward from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm, also at El Camino Memorial - Sorrento Valley.
A Celebration of Life dinner will be served from 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm at the Mira Mesa Moose Family Center located at 8670 Miramar Rd, Suite T, San Diego, CA 92126.
