January 29,1936 – August 6, 2025
It is with great sadness that the family of Sera Soares announce her passing.
She is survived by her daughter, Samanda DaCosta, and her beloved grandchildren Alexis, Brennan, and Katryna. She was predeceased by her husband, Inacinho “Sandy” and their son, Statham Soares.
Sera was born in Zanzibar, Tanzania, and on September 3, 1960, she married her beloved husband, Inacinho “Sandy” Soares. Together, they raised a beautiful family with their daughter, Samanda, and son, Statham.
In the 1970s, Sandy and Sera recognized an opportunity to create a better life for their children and moved their family to the United States. It was Sera’s remarkable talent as a seamstress that helped secure their approval to immigrate. They arrived with only a couple of suitcases and their children in hand, but with sacrifice, resilience, and faith, they succeeded in building the life they had dreamed of.
While embracing their new home, Sera and Sandy remained deeply rooted in their Goan heritage, regularly attending GOA events. They later retired to Nevada, drawn by the warm, dry climate that supported their health. In Sandy’s final year, they moved to California to live with Samanda and her husband Mel, where they were surrounded by the love of family and friends. Sera outlived Sandy by three years, spending that time enjoying the California sun, tending to Samanda’s garden, growing in her faith, and cherishing every moment with her family.
Sera was known for her exceptional skills as a seamstress, her talent in the kitchen, and her love of dancing. She was strong and straightforward—quick to speak her mind if you performed poorly in a game, spoke nonsense, or acted out. Yet, she was also endlessly generous, never expecting anything in return. She loved watching sports, attending Mass, walking, playing solitaire, reading, sewing, and keeping up with the news.
Above all, Sera was a devoted, God-fearing woman who loved her family fiercely. She led by example in her marriage, in her role as a mother and grandmother, and in her unwavering faith. Her grandchildren strive to follow the values she lived by.
Sera’s laughter was like a summer breeze through open windows—bright, spirited, and impossible to ignore. It lifted moods, stirred hearts, and left a joy that lingered long after the sound faded. She will be deeply missed, but her spirit will live on in the love and lives of her daughter and grandchildren.
