Stephan Maximillian Kuhn passed away August 14th, just two days shy of his 65th birthday. Steve was born in San Diego in 1957 to Ruth (née Boehmer) and Claus Peter Kuhn. He grew up in the City Heights area of San Diego and attended Hoover High School where he participated in the school wrestling and varsity golf teams. He attended college at the University of San Diego where he majored in accounting and graduated first in his class in 1979.
After graduating from USD, Steve joined his parents accounting business, which he ultimately purchased and grew into a highly successful San Diego firm built from years of dedication and hard work. Such was the loyalty to Steve’s business ethic that many of his parents’ clients retained his services through all these many years. Steve helped numerous clients, large and small, with accounting and financial planning during his illustrious forty some years in the business.
Steve met the love of his life, Kathleen, in 1983. They were married and had three children, Eve, Emily, and Jake.
When Steve was not working for his clients, he enjoyed traveling with his family, gardening, following Padres baseball, and adoring his two French Bulldogs, Stellar and Mr. Beasley. When with his family, he was known to be a mischievous troublemaker.
Steve was surrounded by his family when he passed away. He is survived by his loving wife Kathleen, his daughters Eve and Emily, his son Jake, and sister, Rita Welz. His absence has not gone unnoticed by Stellar and Mr. Beasley.
A man’s life is a complicated thing. The few words here could never begin to tell the acts of kindness of such an accomplished and good person. Steve Kuhn was just such a man. He was loved by all that were lucky enough to have known him well. But, also, being of a humble nature and of few words, Steve would have kept any reflection of his life short and sweet. He probably would have dismissed a gathering of the bereaved with his oft used expression – “Let’s let these fine folks go home.”
For donations in lieu of flowers, please give to American Cancer Society in memory of Steve Kuhn.
A celebration of life will be held in the coming weeks.
