(1946-2018)
Toan Phuoc Huynh, age 71, of San Diego, CA, passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 20, 2018. He had been battling brain cancer for almost 6 years. He was born on June 17, 1946 in Vietnam and married the love of his life, Mai Thi Tran on December 31, 1972. They immigrated to the U.S. in 1975 and were sponsored by Dr. Evangelou and family, who lovingly welcomed them into their home and helped them start their lives in America. Toan worked as a pharmacist and medical technologist for over 30 years. He worked hard to provide for his wife and 5 daughters, and loved his family and friends unconditionally. He is remembered for his bright smile, boisterous laugh, generous heart, and activism in the Vietnamese community.
He is survived by his wife, Mai; daughter Mary Fukuwa, her husband Mako, and their girls, Keira and Alyssa; his daughter Anne Mortera, her husband Dennis, and their dog, Sumo; his daughter Heather Wong, her husband Jeff, and their boys, Jared and Hudson; his daughter Maggie Solinap, her husband Joey, and their children Penelope Jane and Jaxon; and his daughter Regina Sung and her husband, Eric. He is also survived by his older brother, Hoang Huynh and his family.
There will be a funeral mass at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Mira Mesa on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at 10:00 am, with a reception immediately following at the church hall. We invite family and friends to join us in honoring his life. There will be no burial, as there will be a private cremation at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in his memory to Team Toan for the National Brain Tumor Society's San Diego Brain Tumor Walk.
