Verdell was born to Verler and Raymond Alexander Sr on April 7th, 1947 in Omaha Nebraska. She moved to and grew up in San Diego where she graduated from Lincoln High School and attended San Diego City College.
Verdell moved to the Eastbay, settled in and made Oakland her home for over 50 years. She moved to Santa Rosa where she spent the last four years of her life close to her son and grand daughter.
Verdell’s loyalty and devotion was on full display in every aspect of her family, personal and professional life.
Verdell worked her way up the corporate ranks over her 27 year professional career at the Telephone Company where she held many positions. She started off as a staff clerk in administrative services and was quickly promoted to division secretary. Shortly after that she was promoted to assistant manager after finishing her career in external affairs.
Verdell worked as a teachers aide at Zion Lutheran School for 5 years before earning a position at Saint Joseph Notre Dame High School (SJND) for 18 years where she was the face of SJND. Verdell warmly greeted every person who entered the front doors of Saint Joseph Notre Dame High School. Her smile, welcoming hello and stylish attire made everyone feel right at home.
Verdell enjoyed attending and watching her son Jeff play basketball and loved every second she got to spend with her grand daughter Jaelyn.
Verdell accepted the Lord into her life at an early age. She attended Mt. Erie Baptist Church before moving to Oakland and joined Bethel Baptist Missionary Church in Oakland where she served faithfully.
Verdell was a life long learner. She took evening college classes that the phone company provided. After retiring she took piano lessons, Zumba/Fitness classes and was an avid reader. She was very vibrant, intelligent, fun, complex and interesting. She touched so many lives and her legacy will live on forever in each and every one them.
Verdell is survived by her brother Raymond Alexander Jr, son Jeffrey Fuller, grand daughter Jaelyn Fuller, sister in law Chris Alexander, nieces Patrice Lee, Brianna Alexander and Katelyn Alexander, great nephew and niece Diante and Taya Lee and a host of cousins.
A funeral service for Verdell will be held Saturday, September 11, 2021 from 11:00 AM to 11:00 PM at Cypress View Mausoleum, Mortuary and Crematory, 3953 Imperial Ave, at S 40th St, San Diego, CA 92113. Following the funeral service will be a graveside service from 1:30 PM to 2:00 PM at Cypress View Mausoleum, 3953 Imperial Ave, at S 40th St, San Diego, CA 92113.
