May 15, 1936 - March 31, 2025
Violet MacDonald of Rancho Santa Fe, CA passed away at the age of 88 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.
Violet was born to Dora and Arthur McLaughlin who raised their two children on an apple farm in Middleton, Nova Scotia, Canada. She was a top student and became a proud graduate of Mount Allison University with a B.S. in Chemistry. Violet met her husband, Gordon, at “Mount A”. They wed after her graduation and moved to Montreal. Violet went on to get a Master’s Degree in Meteorology from McGill University and then to work for the Canadian Government’s Meteorological Service.
In the early 60s, Violet and Gordon moved to the U.S., raising their 3 children in the suburbs of Detroit, MI. When Gordon retired, they built their dream home in Rancho Santa Fe where Violet continued to live for almost 20 years after she lost her beloved Gordon.
Violet was an avid gardener, with a keen interest in unusual fruits and flowers and an artistic eye for their arrangement. She thrived on travel and was always ready for an adventure. She made good friends in her garden clubs, walking group, Green Thumb group, and the Chamber Orchestra Society. Most of all, Violet loved her family.
Violet is survived by her three children, four grandchildren, and her brother. She was much loved and will be sorely missed.
