Wilfredo Achi Wong

Wilfredo Wong was born on January 16, 1949, in Cavite City, Philippines, to Jose Wong Yak and Librada Achi. He was the oldest of three sons and grew up alongside his younger brothers, Enrico and Luisito.

A proud graduate of Cavite National High School, Class of 1965, Willie later graduated from the University of Santo Tomas in 1973. In 1974, he enlisted in the United States Navy and, after completing boot camp, returned to the Philippines to marry Violeta Atayan, whom he had first met in college. They remained each other's first and only loves, sharing a lifelong partnership built on love and devotion.

Together, Willie and Violeta raised two children, Karren and Frederick, and were later blessed with three grandchildren, Nicholas, Allanna, and Melissa. Willie was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather who took great pride in his family.

During his 24-year Navy career, Willie and his family lived in Washington, California, and Hawaii. He retired in 1998 as a Chief Petty Officer. While serving in the Navy, he continued his education and earned a master’s degree in business from National University in San Diego.

After retiring from military service, Willie briefly worked for the United States Postal Service before dedicating 17 years of service to the Department of Veterans Affairs. Throughout his life, he remained committed to serving his country, fellow veterans, and community.

A proud Catholic and member of the Knights of Columbus, Willie’s faith was an important part of his life.

Above all, Willie will be remembered for the love he gave to his family and the kindness, dedication, and care he showed to others. He was a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, faithful servant, and friend. His life was defined not only by his accomplishments and years of service, but by the warmth and love he shared with those around him. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family and everyone whose life he touched.
