

Bill grew up in San Diego and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1957. He joined the Army in 1958 and served with the 101st Airborne as a paratrooper. He was a long-term resident of the Shirley Ann Place Historic District where he could often be found walking his dog Lucky. Bill retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 2000. In retirement, he remained active golfing, volunteering with the Retired Senior Volunteer Patrol (RSVP) police program and AARP as a tax preparer, and enjoyed many years working in the stands at Padres games. Bill also enjoyed trying his luck at the Del Mar Racetrack and local casinos.
Bill is survived by his wife of 14 years Suzanne Weir, sister Janet Ardinger, daughter Ann Thomson, son-in-law Blaine McLaughlin, and grandchildren Elizabeth, Margaret and Robert McLaughlin. Bill was predeceased by his first wife Betty M. Thomson and brothers Kenneth and Robert Thomson. He is loved, missed, and will always be remembered.
Visitation will be held Nov. 22, 2022 from 4 – 8 PM at Goodbody Mortuary (5027 El Cajon Boulevard). Burial will take place Nov. 23, 2022 at 11 AM at El Camino Memorial Park (5600 Carroll Canyon Road). In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations be made in memory of Bill Thomson to Thrive Animal Rescue, a San Diego dog rescue non-profit (thriveanimalrescue.com).
