Yolanda Victoria (Torres) Hunemuller passed away surrounded by loved ones on August 12, 2026 in San Diego, California. Yolanda Torres was born on June 23, 1943 in Mexico City, Mexico to parents Jose Luis Torres and Maria Estela Encinas. She is the second youngest of five siblings, older sisters Maria Louisa Monjaras (passed), Henrietta Broderick, Stella Torres, and younger brother Joe Torres Jr.
Yolanda married her husband, Fred Hunemuller, on October 12, 1963, later celebrating their love with a Catholic ceremony on November 30, 1963. They were happily married for 62 years, spending their life together in San Diego County. Together, they had two children, Stephen Hunemuller (passed) and Laura Weinhofer.
Yolanda was the embodiment of being family oriented. Affectionately known as “Yoli”, “Yo” to her siblings and friends, and “Tia” to her nieces and nephews, she is remembered as being a loving and selfless person. She was a caring host to family and friends for any celebration throughout the years, always having an open seat at the dinner table for everyone. Some of her infamous recipes included Christmas paella and “Steve’s Cake”. She adored spending time with her husband and kids, as well as the countless dogs they had over the years. She also was proud to be grandma “Mema” and “Who Who” to four grandchildren, Garrett Hunemuller, Mallory Armour, Jenna Weinhofer, and Rachel Weinhofer. She also was a great grandparent to Mallory’s children Teagan Martin and Corbin Armour.
She graduated from San Diego High School in 1961. Her career path started as a Bilingual Teacher Aide at Ocean Knoll Elementary, where she bridged the gap between staff and Spanish speaking students and families. When it was time for a career change, she worked as a manager for two computer software companies and a fabric store, as well as for the family business Western Land Surveying and Engineering. She also was the owner of a catering company, where she used her love and talent of cooking to feed many throughout North County. Although she worked many different jobs, her priority was always taking care of family.
Yolanda had countless hobbies. Being an artist was a core part of her identity. She was talented at many mediums of art including sewing, knitting, painting, drawing, quilting, and everything in between; many of them including her favorite color purple, owls, and hummingbirds. She enjoyed caring for her garden, including hydrangeas lining her front lawn. She also enjoyed singing and playing the guitar to 60’s and 70’s music. She was involved in local bowling leagues, softball teams, and jazzercise classes. Yet the sports she enjoyed the most was cheering her kid’s and grandkid’s sports games. Other free time spent was enjoying movies, live theater, and cheering on the San Diego Padres.
Yolanda Hunemuller’s service will be held on August 19, 2026 at El Camino Memorial in San Diego, California. Thank you for remembering Yolanda, she will live on through the countless memories made with her beloved family and friends.
