Yvonne Florence Scott, beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother and friend to many passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at Villa Bonita Senior Living on Saturday, February 7th, 2015. Mom was born in Gillingham, Kent, England. She was the daughter of Maurice and Florence Fitzgerald and the big sister of two Brothers, Tony and Colin. Mom married our Dad Merrill H. Scott, Jr. at the end of World War II. Shortly thereafter she moved with Dad to San Diego where she remained until her final days.
Mom grew up in pre war England. She experienced the best and the most challenging events of the times. She served in the British Military during the war and met Dad, who served in the US Army Air Core, at a dance. Their courtship was a long one and endured long periods of separation due to deployments and other events bourn from those difficult times. Shortly after the war’s end, Mom traveled by boat and train to San Diego, Ca. There she bore and raised three boys, Bobby, Ricky and Gerry.
Always the home maker, Mom was never short of things to keep her busy. We always had a clean home, three squares a day, a loving home and rules to live by. She was involved in the PTA, Scouts, various clubs and other social activities. Having grown up in England during the war she knew how to stretch a dollar. It was often said she could pinch the head off a nickel. That being said we never wanted for anything. Like our grandmother before her, Mom could create comfort out of chaos and never miss a step. She was a dedicated Mother and a loving wife to our Dad. She loved cooking, music, language, dancing, art and knew how to throw a wing-dinger of a party. Mom learned to make her own clothing and put together great costumes for parties and events. When summer months found us primitive camping she was in the center of it all helping to make it right for her boys.
Mom will be missed by her surviving Brother Colin, Sons Rick and Gerry, Daughters-in-law Josie and Laurie, Grandchildren, Stephanie, Ken and Jennifer, Great-Grandchildren, Cavon, Eamonn and Enzo, Cousins Dave, Susie, Daryl and Craig.
Yvonne will be remembered in a service with family and close friends. A service will be held at Fort Rosecrans, San Diego, CA on Tuesday the 24th of February at 1 PM. This will be followed by a gathering at the home of Gerry and Laurie Scott. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to: Chula Vista Veterans Home, 700 East Naples Court, Chula Vista, CA 91911.
