Zelma Fite Collins was born in Beckville, Texas to Earlie and Laura Fite, who preceded her in death. She was the fourth child. Her brothers Marcellas, Horace and Ladell preceded her in death. Her family later moved to Longview, Texas where she attended Red Oak Baptist Church. She graduated from Longview Negro High School in 1957. She then graduated from Marshall Beauty School as a licensed Beautician. In 1958, she met the love of her life, Simmie (Foreman) Collins, at Edward Johnson Drug Store. Zelma and Simmie were married on May 12, 1963 (Mother’s Day). From their union they had two children; LaWanda Collins and Shena Collins Flores. With Simmie being enlisted in the military, they moved to San Diego in 1964.
Zelma leaves to cherish her memories; her husband Simmie of 61 years. Two daughters; LaWanda and Shena. Six grandchildren, four great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
Inurnment will be at Miramar National Cemetery.
