Best Boss Ever! I can't say enough of Carl's leadership and in the growing through our work relationship how much he cared for both humans and animals. Though Carl was my superior,  I felt more like he was my highly respected friend. And though he isn't here any longer I just want to remember and let his beloved family know that I think of him often and it leads me to think of his family whom I knew he loved dearly. Keeping you all in prayer. Sincerely jeanniet.

Carl and I were best friends from 1955 until 1966.  What a shock to find out his passing, and I wish the best for Laura and the kids.  Carl and I went our separate ways when he joined the Army and I went on to college.  We last saw each other in 1981 when he and Harold Weinstein came to visit and we went to Lake Tahoe for the day.  Sorry we lost contact over the years, but you will be remembered with honors.  Rest in Peace.

So sorry to hear this sad news.  Carl was truly one of the "good guys," a boon to man. woman and beast alike.  R.I.P.,  old friend.  R.I.P.   My sincere condolences to your family and many friends.  

Carl will always be the inspiration for us all. He was my mentor, my friend, a shining light to steer the ship of state through the shoals. 
You were taken from us too soon, but I know that your memory will indeed be as a blessing: l’bracha l’zichronah. 

Dearest Carl,
I feel you never left.  For, I remember you last I saw you.  You walked in the front lobby at the SFACC.  With a great smile, which was your signature.  Our joyful co-worker Nakiesha Brown jokingly said, "Carl order us a pizza".  And you did hand us $ to do so.  You gave me and most of my co-workers a feeling of comfort, responsibility, diplomacy, leadership, commitment, passion about our jobs servicing the community day after day,  and most important, the love for animals and those who own them.  On the other hand, you advised me to leave the job when I was off.  To take care of myself and my family.  You will always be in my thoughts as a great human being at his best!  
Thank You, Love you and I am sure you are watching over your dear family, wife, children and all.

Carl was a good man and he was my friend.  I worked with Carl when he first started his job as Director of Animal Care and Control through 1999, when I left the City.  Carl was dedicated to his "clients", and those were the  animals that came into his shelter.  He reminded me that we served more than the needs of the people in the City and Country of San Francisco.

I'll miss Carl.

Sincere condolences to his family, to his friends and to the animal welfare world, because they have all lost a wonderful man.

I was a big fan of Carl's and was always happy to be in his presence.   His warmth and smile were playful and inviting and it was an honor to play small roles in supporting his many significant and successful commitments to the health and well-being of animals and the community he served so long and so well.  He enriched many of our lives and I'll forever hold fond memories of the times I had the pleasure to be with him.

My deepest sympathy goes out to the Friedman Family. Carl will be greatly missed by many. He was a pioneer in the animal world and Hero. I enjoyed working  with Carl until he retired. He was an insightful, patient, fair and a caring leader with an open door policy. Every night when he left the shelter he would say good bye and tell us he was leaving the city and county in our hands. His legacy will live on. Miss you much Carl...……………...RIP

My deepest condolences to Carl's family. He was an amazing animal welfare leader, and created something so incredibly special in SF Animal Care & Control. His many words of wisdom stay with me every day, and he will be greatly missed. 

I am forever grateful for all the things that CARL made possible in my life. I loved working with him.
