Christian Ernest von Doepp passed away on October 30, 2024, in his home in San Francisco, California. Christian was born on January 5, 1936, and was raised in Saxony, Germany. Following the Second World War, he emigrated to the United States with his parents, settling in Ohio. He graduated from DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana in 1957. He then completed his MD at Stanford University in 1961 and went on to develop a primary specialty in psychiatry. He settled in San Francisco in the late 1960s with his wife, Ellen Anderson. Prior to their divorce in 1979, they had three children, Heidi, Peter, and Niels. He later married Janet Ball, although the couple divorced in 2019. Christian spent much of his career as a psychiatrist with San Mateo County and also had a small private practice. He was a US Navy reserve officer for over two decades and was named a distinguished life fellow by the American Psychiatric Association.
Christian loved books and the theater. Always eager for adventure, he travelled broadly and embraced the opportunity to engage with people from different cultures, learn about their history, and sample their cuisine. He also spent a great deal of time at the family vacation home in Lake Tahoe, and he had a special fondness for joining with his family around the Christmas holidays. He is survived by his three children and eight grandchildren.
