To the Hall family,

I was saddened to hear of Dave’s passing. I met Dave through Baldwin and the work with the Geo Policing team. We had many great conversations, and though I never had the privilege of meeting him in person, it was immediately obvious that he was special person with a heart for making peoples’ lives better.  I am very grateful to have my life to be graced by his. Our hearts go out to you and your family , and please know that you’re in our thoughts and prayers.

I am so sorry for your loss.

Dave and I worked together at the Park District in patrol periodically, but I worked especially closely with him in the Personnel and Training department, when Dave put together detailed training plans as the Diversity Coordinator.  I remember well his professionalism, analytical mind, and especially his passion to train and mentor others.


We were friends away from work, as well.  My wife and I would sometimes meet him in SF for sushi.  He introduced us to a favored spot, Sushi Chardonnay, with a great all-you-can eat menu from which Dave and I gorged ourselves. Conversation with Dave was usually light, but thoughtful and meaningful, sometimes about his drive to rise into a leadership position.  I do believe his ambition was more about helping others than it was about personal advancement.


I was happy when he made sergeant, but always thought he would get a shot at command staff.  I would not have been a bit surprised if he made chief.  He was a bright, well-read and articulate guy who would have done well in any occupation, but he served our department well in the career he chose.  It was an honor to work with him and more-so to know him.


Probably the thing that I remember most about Dave is his gentle humor, his broad smile, his eyes twinkling (sometimes mischievously), and then that great deep laugh.  Rest in peace, Dave.

To the Hall Family (Alfred, Sharlene, and Julie Kay):  Only a select group of individuals can have a positive and immediate impact on things they become involved with. Dave was just such a person in and supportive of law enforcement. Dave was a highly valued member of our newly formed GeoPolicing team that included the former police chiefs of Chattanooga, TN and of Houston, TX, a police psychologist, along with members of the GeoDD Group.  Dave was exceptional in what he brought to our team.  Smart, thoughtful and strategic thinking balanced with compassion for officers and citizens alike. We will miss him.

So sorry to hear of your loss!  Let us celebrate a life well lived.

Auntie Shar, Uncle Al and Julie, Matt and I are very sorry for your loss.  I was really looking forward to working more with him.  I am glad we had the time together to talk, share, laugh, plan, eat and be family.  I will really miss his super dry wit.  He was such a gentleman.

Dave was a consummate Police Officer for the East Bay Regional Parks. He was always professional and considerate. He will be missed. My condolences to his family and friends.

East Bay Regional Parks PD 3L73, you are 10-7. Rest easy sir, we have the watch from here. 

We lost a tremendous friend, mentor, colleague and instructor. If it weren't for Dave, my Masters program would have been insufferably difficult. He had an innate way of breaking down a convoluted concept into an understandable theory with real world applications. Dave was the one who mentored me for an entire year in Public Administration for my graduate degree. 

I can't tell you the hours he spent with us, be it over dinner or coffee, or after a long day of teaching while we drove home from San Diego, or prepping us for supervisor interviews and later leadership roles... he was always available and would make time for you. He was just that kind of man... and one of a kind at that. 

He was our sensei, our guru and our Yoda, and he will be terribly missed. My heartfelt condolences and prayers of comfort to Dave's family. He will never be forgotten.

Dave will be missed at our many impromptu dinners and celebrations through the years. He was always very generous with his time in helping me with all my computer issues. I think he enjoyed the challenges of fixing my computer. He would not stop until he resolved the issue.  God bless Dave and may God bring peace and comfort to his family.
