On Sunday, May 4th, at 7:30 a.m., David Lipson, beloved husband of Una S. Ryan, passed away peacefully, holding his wife's hand. The couple was preparing to embark on a second honeymoon through the Mediterranean, Paris, London, and Cambridge -- a journey they had long anticipated. His sudden passing from Influenza A has left a profound sadness among all who knew him.
David's life was marked by intellect, dedication, and quiet strength. He pursued excellence from an early age, beginning with his education at Phillips Exeter Academy, continuing at Stanford University, and culminating in his law degree from Harvard Law School. He went on to clerk for Justice Raymond L. Sullivan and Judge Stanley Weigel of the Federal District Court for the Northern District of California, launching a distinguished legal career that spanned more than five decades. He also worked for the state public defender and for various professional law firms. Practicing law in California, David earned the respect and admiration of colleagues and clients alike for his integrity and keen mind.
David was a devoted and loving husband, deeply connected to Una and her family. He shared a close bond
with Una's daughters, Tamsin and Amy, and their families. He is also survived by a daughter, Christina, and a grandson, Ryder, of North Carolina.
David will be remembered not only for his professional accomplishments but for the man he was -- a steadfast presence, a brilliant thinker, and a gentle, loving soul. His passing is a great shock to all who knew and loved him. His memory will endure in the hearts of his family, friends, and the many lives he touched.
