The family had high hopes for him to be the next generation's heir and progenitor. A bright and winsome child, David fulfilled the role of eldest son with verve–a father’s hope and a mother’s joy. As David grew up, when he wasn’t in school or working on the farm with his father Charles and grandfather Ernest, he spent on scientific experiments.
David excelled scholastically. He graduated from the University of Minnesota as a civil engineer. David also served in the Air Force and was stationed at the Loveland Air Force Base. David liked Colorado so much that he lived there for most of his career.
David is survived by his wife of 37 years, Marie Winzer; sister Shirley (Robert) Schmidt; niece Heather Kelly; sister Jean (Paul) Hovland; nephew Joel (Kristin) Hovland; grandnieces Kallie, Makenna, and Charlee; niece Jessica (Chris) Yuska; grandnephew Grant; grandniece Lauren.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Sophie Winzer; grandparents Ernest and Alice Winzer; grandparents John and Anna Haugland; and sister Dalyce Winzer.
David Charles Winzer decided not to return to run his ancestral family farm which his parents thought would be his legacy. Sadly, because of having rheumatic fever as a small child, he could never have children. His focus in life became engineering. His youngest sister Jean and her family run the farm. David’s legacy is carried on in other ways.
