Don Stace - Quintessential Tour Guide. Passionate San Franciscan.
Good Friend. Knowledgable Historian. Generous with humor and humility. We will take care of the precious books, pictures and presents he gave us. I can still hear his laughter, his kind words, feel his huge bear hug the last time we parted. See the tears on his cheeks as he walked us out to the car. Brave man for valiantly enduring the tumor in his head, praying he would 
 still have more time with those he 
loved and cherished....  Godspeed!!

Don was a real San Francisco history enthusiast and it was always a joy to work with him.  As a  colleague he was a gentleman and had a keen sense of humor. He would nickname me "the Queen of Holland" because I told him that I had immigrated to San Francisco with my parents as a young child from Amsterdam.
Don loved Victorian architecture and we would engage in  long conversations about the history of the homes at Alamo Square.  I will miss him and hope that he will RIP. Dear Don.

Don, you are missed. You were a friend to many; gentleman, and tour guide extraordinaire. I will always remember your infinite kindness, intelligence and that magnificent speaking voice I always felt should have been on the airwaves. You're touring heaven now, and this time, someone else is doing the driving!  

Don was a professional colleague and a good friend. We first were introduced during a Tourguide educational trip to California’s Gold Country.  We would thereafter work together a few times a month but also spend free time exploring historical locations around the Bay. During Covid we frequently met for “Outdoor Coffee”  so that both of us could keep our sanity.  I will miss those conversations. We both loved cars and history, so never a quiet moment.

Don was the model for all Tourguides: professional, inquisitive, outgoing. I am forever in his debt for what he taught me.

Ultimately though, it is his friendship and warmth that I will always remember.  He was one of a kind, and is already sorely missed.
