Eda passed away peacefully in San Francisco on December 16, 2016. She was 97. Daughter of Marco Carniglia and Malvina Canepa, Eda was the born in Santa Cruz, CA and grew up in San Francisco. She was the last of four siblings and was predeceased by her close sisters: Florence M. Zolezzi and Lillian Torre, and her dear brother, Marco Carniglia, who was a World War II veteran and part of the Normandy invasion.
Eda graduated from Gallileo High School. She was an early employee of the State Department's San Francisco Office of Strategic Services where she enjoyed a thirty-year career with it and its successor agency. Eda had a rich life from the passion she brought to her interests. She loved music and, in particular, jazz, show tunes, and music from the Big Band Era. One of her main hobbies was the piano. She played Ellington, Gershwin and Fats Waller and was quick to remind people that she played "stride piano." She became a watercolorist in her 60's and traveled frequently with her artist friends to paint scenes in far reaching places, often inspired by the sea, boats and fisherman who were part of her Ligurian heritage. We are so proud of our "Aunt Eda" and the joy she brought to her family and close friends.
Eda is survived by her nephew Walter Zolezzi, her grandnephews and grandnieces Marc Zolezzi, Lynn Holmes and her husband Roger, Craig Zolezzi, Stephen Zolezzi and his wife Lita, Richard Zolezzi and his wife Sylvie, and Michael Zolezzi and his wife Louise, and their families.
Services will be held at the Italian Cemetery, Colma on Thursday, December 22nd at 11am.
