Fletcher was a great man and a great sculptor. I worked intimately with Fletcher for 13 years as his assistant welding/fabricating his masterful compositions in steel. He was a mentor, a friend, and very much a father figure. He often called his hard-edge sensibility for art "a curse". He passed on a great deal of his mindset to me during those many years working together in his studio. I like to think of my influenced mindset as "a gift". He had an enormous presence and triumphant life. I've missed him from the day I left his studio. Well wishes, thoughts and prayers, condoling.

Fletcher Benton was a true gentleman. I had the privilege of knowing him in 1959 while I was attending the California School of Fine Art in San Francisco. Always kind and generous, he gave me a small oil painting, sent me a beautiful book of his kinetic sculptures, and treated my niece to a tour of his studio. Fletcher married an inspiring wife and mother in Bobbie, and I'm sure his children are also a great credit to him. The gift of his amazing talent and prolific work will continue to bring pleasure and awe to his fans for many decades to come. Fletcher Benton has definitely left his mark on eternity.
