Genevieve (Maestri) Johnson passed away on April 5th, 2024 in San Francisco, CA, while being cared for at the Coming Home Hospice Center. She was born 3/31/1942 to Tony and Zelma Maestri of Pt Reyes Station. She had a stroke the night before her 82nd birthday, eventually passing away one week later. Genevieve went to the old Black School in Pt. Reyes Station, then the new West Marin Elementary School. She attended the old Tomales High School, graduating in 1960. She used to help her friend with her algebra on the 18 mile ride to school. She could be a bit of a practical joker too, scaring the paperboy by putting a snakeskin in the mailbox.
Genevieve felt stifled by small town Pt Reyes, like there wasn't much of a future there for her. So after bouncing around for a few years, working for Hills Brothers Coffee in San Francisco, The Tillamook County Creamery Association in Tillamook, OR, and Safeway in San Rafael, she got her first job selling real estate at Marin Town & Country Real Estate. With that, Genevieve found her calling. She was smart, hard working, and liked people - the perfect job. She started in real estate in approximately 1972 and 50 years later, just 2 weeks before her death, closed her last transaction. She once had a client call and say he wanted to list his home with her because he had picked up one of those glossy magazines and her picture and listings were on almost every page. He told her he wanted her because she was a very popular agent. She always got a chuckle out of that. She stayed good friends with many of her clients, visiting with one the day prior to her death.
Genevieve came into the lives of the Cologne Family 39 years ago. She met Rose and Mike at an open house and remained close friends to this day. They adopted her as one of their family. She was known as Auntie Hot. She always made sure she was late to the party, as she "loved the grand entrance" and the attention everyone gave her. She was always known to wear sparkling clothing and jewelry and loved to dance. She will be missed by all who were fortunate to know her.
Genevieve moved to Reno, NV, approx. 10 years ago to be closer to her son Scott, but she still drove back to Marin/Sonoma to have her longtime hairdresser do her hair. She said no one in Reno could do as good of a job as Sharon, so it was worth the drive. She would also go back for real estate transactions with friends and long time clients, and to visit friends and family. She was due to leave on a two week Panama Canal cruise with her son, but sadly, it never happened.
Genevieve was proceeded in death by her parents Tony and Zelma Maestri and her brother and sister in law, James and Carolyn Maestri of Pt. Reyes Station. She is survived by her son Scott Johnson of Reno, NV, her nephew Tony Maestri of Penngrove, CA, her niece Michelle Maestri Burkhard, her cousin Diane Boccaleoni of Carson City, NV, along with many dear friends, going as far back as the first grade, who will miss her very much! Genevieve was well taken care of by the staff at Coming Home Hospice. They were like angels who came down to earth to help us all. If you can, please consider a small donation to their organization, 115 Diamond St. San Francisco, CA. 94114.
No services are planned at this time. As her sister in law Carolyn Maestri just passed away, Genevieve's son felt it would be too much for the family all at once. An announcement will be made at a later date. Genevieve will be cremated and taken home to Reno. May God bless Genevieve's soul. We will see you again Mom and have lots to catch up on. We all love you!!
