
Born in San Francisco, July 27, 1926 and passed away on January 2, 2025; devoted husband of the late Marie; loving father of Mark (Nancy) and the late Berry Devincenzi ans step-son William Walters; dear grandfather of Domenic and Alyssa.
George served in the U.S. Navy, WWII and was honorably discharged in 1946. He was a correctional officer at the Federal Penitentiary Alcatraz 1950 – 1957. He wrote a book about his many experiences while on Alcatraz. The book is “Murders on Alcatraz”, and has kept George very busy going to Alcatraz avery week selling his popular book.
For the past 25 years, George has been giving lectures and tours at Alcatraz. After working as a correctional officer he transferred to the United States Custom service and worked there for 36 years where he retired as a Customs Inspector Supervisor. He retired with a total of 46 years of Federal Service.
Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, 1/14/2025, 10 AM at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 2320 Green St., at Steiner, SF. Entombment, Holy cross Catholic Cemetery. In his memory donations may be made to St. Jude’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl., Memphis TN 38105.
A graveside service for George will be held Tuesday, January 14, 2025 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, 1500 Mission Rd, Colma, CA 94014. Funeral service from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 2320 Green St, San Francisco, CA 94123.
