Harper Stewart, formerly known as Cameron Paul Stewart, passed away August 30, 2026, in San Francisco. Harper is survived by partners Rachel Kolb and Cyrus Kieras of San Francisco, parents Jane and Paul Stewart of Harbor Springs, Michigan, as well as siblings Hannah Stewart (Raimundo Espejo) and Sean Stewart (Isabella Bacon).
Harper was born February 5, 1998, during a blizzard in Cincinnati, Ohio. Making the treacherous drive to the hospital for her birth, her grandparents declared “the highway’s cleared, it’s like the parting of the seas.” So eager were we to welcome this marvelous addition to our family.
Harper had a brilliant analytical mind, and a sharp wit. She found comfort and joy in exploring the beauty of nature. Her adventures over the years often included hiking, camping, cycling, kayaking, rowing, and telemark skiing. Harper pursued these activities and other interests with unmatched passion and perseverance. Recently, Harper rode to the peak of Mt Diablo (3,800 feet) with a housemate, and she routinely cycled the hills of San Fran before work. We can hear her say, “If it wasn’t on Strava, it doesn’t count”.
Harper had a generous spirit and strong work ethic. She was proud to be a Nub’s Nob snow farmer, and a gifted Trek bicycle technician (Touring Gear and Valencia Cyclery). Her gentle soul made her a favorite of four-legged friends, who gravitated toward her welcoming spirit. She was at home as her alter ego, Pisco Fox, and was welcomed by the loving furry community.
Harper was intrinsically motivated, eager to learn, and rarely sought external validation; she was unapologetically herself. She was independent and strong-willed. She often shared her encyclopedic knowledge on a wide range of topics, sometimes taking her audience aback with incredible recall and her ability to solve complex math problems in her head.
Harper graduated from Cincinnati Country Day School in 2016, where she was a National Merit Finalist. Following her father’s footsteps, she earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from Ohio University. Family and friends loved Harper immeasurably. She leaves behind a large extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who will genuinely miss her boisterous opinions and antics.
Services in both San Francisco and Harbor Springs will be announced at a later date but are sure to include an outdoor adventure. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to www.saveafox.org, a fox sanctuary in MN, or an LGBTQ advocacy group.
Just as a little sun can open a flower, a little love can change a life. Harper changed ours.
