Jean passed away at her home on August 10 after a long and hard fought battle with breast cancer. Daughter of Way Man and Soo King Yee, Jean was born and bred in Seattle, Washington. The seventh of eight children, Jean made her way to San Francisco in 1951. Intending to visit her sisters Mary and Pauline, she too, fell in love with the City. On October 11, 1955, Jean married our Dad, Percy, and they then began their life together.
Jean was an energetic and dynamic woman who was an avid Giant's fan, loved her weekly mah-jong games and was a member of the Gee Sue Duck Family Association in San Francisco's Chinatown, where she had served as President of the women's auxiliary. She looked forward to her favorite holidays, Chinese New Year and Christmas, where she would produce dozens of handmade nian gao and her scrumptious carrot cake for family and friends.
Jean was predeceased by husband, Percy; son, Jay Michael; brother, Glen Yee; sister, Mabel Lew; and her parents. She is survived by daughters, Stacy (Bill) Joe; Dana (Charles) Wong; son, Derek (Angie); grandchildren, Matthew and Bradley (Lucia) Joe, Chelsea and Alexa Wong, Sander and Skyler Chu and great-granddaughter, Leah Joe. She is also survived by brother, Frank Yee; her sisters, Phyllis Lum, Mary Wong, Pauline Lum, and Doris Namba. She leaves behind many loved ones and friends who cared deeply for her.
The family extends heartfelt appreciation to Millie, Kit, and May from Self-Help for the Elderly's hospice program and to the many friends who visited and made her days more meaningful and special. We are especially beholden to Fong, Mom's 24/7 caregiver. Donations in memory of Jean may be made to: Gum Moon Women's Residence, Asian Women's Resource Center
