On September 16, 1969, Kimi was born in Iwaki, Fukushima, the oldest of three siblings. He attended elementary, middle, and Yumoto Prefectural High School, in his hometown. He competed and enjoyed playing volleyball in middle school, while also doing well with baseball in high school. His advanced English led him to dream of going outside of Japan someday. After graduating high school in 1988, he met with the founder of Azuma Foods, whom he was introduced to by his father who was working in the market. After his training in Canada, he realized what he was capable of working overseas and dedicated his whole working life to working with Azuma Foods. It was a new start for him with the president and the CFO. He was able to share the success as an executive at every stage of the company’s growth, such as the establishment of the Hayward and Oakland Factory beginning in 1990. Then, in January of 1997, he was married. In 1999, his first daughter was born. In 2001 his family welcomed a son. In 2003 he moved his family to Richmond, BC, Canada, to establish a new branch. In 2004, his second and last daughter was born. In 2011, he and his family moved back from Canada to the Bay Area, where it all started for him. Fast-forwarding to February 2020, he moved alone to Lima, Peru, to create a brand-new branch. But one year later in February 2021, he came back home to fight against cancer. Sadly, on March 15, 2021, he was no longer with us.
Death has come too soon for Kimi, at only 51 years old and married for just 24 years. He has been fully supported by his family, parents, two younger brothers, relatives, friends, and co-workers throughout his life. He loved to eat, especially fish and beer. Right now, he might be eating sashimi and drinking beer in a better place.
Kimi’s cremation ceremony has been planned for March 30, 2021, at 10:00 am. With the COVID-19 protocols now in place, we can only have a small number of people attend his memorial service. and we are unable to receive flowers. We plan to send further notice when we have the cremation planned.
