
Lawrence Christopher Gee, passed away peacefully in Oakland, CA, on August 27, 2017, at the age of 94. Lawrence was the oldest of five sons of the late Lawrence Kee-Lip Gee and May Chin Til-Lon Gee. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mai Yuk Leung Gee, younger brothers Augustine, Aloysius, Andrew, and Walter, sister-in-law Hazel Leung Gee, daughter and son-in-law Irene and David Wu. He is survived by his grand-daughter, Angela Wu of New York, grandson Patrick Wu of New York and his wife, two great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
Lawrence was born in San Francisco on June 25, 1923. He attended St. Mary’s Chinese Mission School as a child and proudly served as an altar boy. After graduating high school, he began his career as a seaman in 1943, beginning in the Army Transportation Corps during World War II, and continuing as a merchant seaman until his retirement in 1974. His travels took him around the world, to every continent except Antarctica. He was later employed as a custodian at San Francisco State University until retiring in the 1980s. After retirement, he enjoyed traveling with his wife to visit their grand- and great-grandchildren. He was a devoted parishioner at the St. Mary’s Chinese Mission for his entire life. He was very self-sufficient and lived independently until late 2015.
