

Malin Kwong Tom passed away in his home in Santa Clara, California on February 8, 2021 at the age of 92. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.
Malin was born on April 18, 1928 in Pai Shan Village in Canton, China to Yip Way Tom and Hai Lee. He had two sisters and one brother. When Malin was 12 years old, he traveled by ship to America and immigrated through Angel Island as a paper son. After he was released, he lived in San Diego with his father, whom he loved dearly.
Malin graduated from San Diego High in 1947, where he lettered in varsity basketball. After graduation, he and his father traveled back to China where he caught the first glimpse of his future wife, Fay Jean Chan. They were married December 15th in the 35th year of the Chinese Republic (1947). They later moved to California where they entered the flower industry and grew asters in Palo Alto. An avid sports fan, Malin spent the years in the Bay Area going to sports games and spending time with his family.
Malin is survived by his wife, Fay, and four children - Susan, Calvin, Cyndy, & Sylvia; five grandchildren - Darlene, Amy, Michelle, Matthew, & Madeleine; and two great-grandchildren - Audra & Amelia.
Malin loved his family with all that he had. He gave unconditional love and kindness and had the biggest heart. He will always be in our hearts.
