Marian Donati

Passed away peacefully on June 18th at home with her family.

Marian is survived by her children Gina Symczak and Mario, and their spouses, Roger and Anthy, whom she lovingly called her children. Also by her sister, nieces and nephews and their families, and the family dogs she loved so much. Her beloved husband, Rudy, predeceased her in 2007.

Marian was a third generation San Franciscan. She grew up in West Portal, attended St. Brigid high school, and graduated from U.C. Berkeley. She then taught second grade in Hunter's Point before joining United Airlines for the exciting job of managing their first downtown office. Her favorite job, however, was being a mom. There was no doubt that she considered it the most important and rewarding career, and she pursued it with the most tender love and devotion. She quietly set the tone for her family, and was our model of grace and dignity, conviction and discipline. She loved her extended family "tribe", and was happiest when everyone vacationed together in Lake Tahoe and Puerto Vallarta, or enjoyed a wonderful dinner at her table or the hottest new restaurant.

Marian embraced every opportunity to learn and explore something new. Always the teacher, she loved books and poems and sharing her favorite quotes. She was incredibly fun-loving and enjoyed a good laugh and anything whimsical. She always said there was something happy to be found in every day. Her deep compassion for the most vulnerable was reflected in her love of little children and animals; she was a mom to many. Marian's determination, deep faith and incredible attitude provided reserves of strength that helped her overcome several serious illnesses. She was so courageous and never complained. She never realized how much this quiet strength and positive attitude inspired others. We are so proud of her. We felt her love every day and always will.
