Mary Ann Figone, 96, of San Francisco, California, Saturday, made a blessed transition to a new life on Saturday August 10th in her home of over seventy-five years. She was born November 25, 1916. As the only family member not born in Italy, Mary relied on her older sister Lena to teach her American ways.
She is survived by two daughters, Rosemary Faucette of Fayetteville, AR and Nancy Stewart of Novato, California; her sons- in-law, George Faucette and Bill Stewart; five grandchildren, Ben, Spencer and Sean Stewart and Sagely and Justin Faucette; eight great grandchildren, Drake and Lilliana Faucette, Kai (Faucette) Steenken, Cameryn and Molly Stewart, and Annie, Emma and Nicholas Stewart; her nephews , Larry and Ray Basso whom she looked on as her sons, Denise Figone Eliot, and Melvin Figoni.
Mary was known for her spunk, energy, and organizational skills. With her myriad lists and a calendar, she planned trips, events, weddings, parties with the ease of a professional. Her busy social life reflected her love of people. She and her husband Babe maintained a group of friends for over fifty years, sharing weekly dinners and Gin Rummy, vacations, and outings of all sorts.
Though the last few years of her life were spent bedridden, she enjoyed guests dropping in and having her great grandchildren play by her bed, which she had moved into the living room so she could watch the activities of the Marina from her windows.
A private service and burial was held on August 16, 2013. A memorial service will be held at St. Vincent de Paul on Saturday November 23, 2013, at 11:00 o'clock with guests invited to gather at the Italian club in North Beach afterwards.
