Mayra was born on January 27, 1959 in San Francisco, CA to Maria (Tonia) and Ricardo Alvarenga. Mayra was a San Francisco native, born and raised and spent nearly all of her life in the city. She was a graduate of Balboa High and a 35-year employee of the City and County of San Francisco Social Services Department, where she made many lifelong friendships.
Mayra loved traveling, shopping, dining out and dancing, her family, her extensive network of friends and loved ones, and her beloved pets. She was also an avid reader, loved music and anything to do with butterflies. She was known for her feisty spirit, her generous and giving heart, her zest for life and how she encouraged others. She was loved by many who experienced her generosity and kindness. All who were lucky to have known her will always remember how full of life she was.
Mayra was preceded in death by her mother, Tonia, her father, Ricardo and her husband James. She is survived by her siblings, Maria (Bob), Ricky and Charlie and her nieces and nephews Raquel (Dan), Melissa (Mike), Angie, Theresa (Ralph), Alex, Vanessa (Ricky), Daniel, and her great nieces and nephews Jonathan, Ricky, Jasmine, Olivia, Aryssa, Anthony and many cousins.
