Resident of San Francisco, California
Nicholas "Sic Nick" Lopez III, 50, passed away on Thursday, April 26th at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center due to a massive heart attack and complications that resulted from delayed resuscitation. He has been a pillar of strength to those in his community through his gift of connecting with people, his love of the arts and his passion for fishing.
Nicholas III was born in Honolulu, Hawaii and moved to San Francisco, California when he was four years old with his mother and two siblings. At a young age he showed an interest in the arts through break dancing and rapping. He is well known by many locals for his break dancing displays down at Pier 39 and Fisherman's Wharf. He was very protective of his family, earning the name "Sic Nick" because his brother Thomas Lopez would often "sic" him on people who would try to mistreat him or his sister. "Sic Nick" would also become his rapper name; some of his most memorable songs include Some Got it Hard and Ghetto Boy. His lyrics were meant to project his reality and bring awareness to the importance of being true to yourself. Nick's passion for fishing led him to establish the Fish Fighter's Club, because he saw fishing as an effective solution to reducing aggression and practicing the art of being "in the moment". He faced lots of challenges throughout his life, but his humor, fighting spirit and tight knit community saw him through the toughest times. He worked well with his hands as a painter and self-taught carpenter whose knack for aesthetics is common knowledge to those who knew him. Nicholas III showed an increasing interest in the visual arts. He began painting artwork on canvas that included elements of abstract, realism and surrealism. He also enjoyed martial arts, growing plants and spending time with loved ones.
Nicholas III is survived by his two children Joshua Nicholas Lopez and Keonna Alexandra Lopez; his granddaughter Samantha Serenity Lopez: his mother Linda Mareen Hayden of San Francisco and sister Anita Marie Lopez of Sacramento, California. He was predeceased by his father Nicholas M. Lopez Jr. who passed away on November 26, 1994; and his younger brother Thomas Willard Angel Lopez who passed away four years ago n July 25, 2014. Nicholas has touched so many lives in his life. He will be truly missed. Although he is no longer with us physically, he will live on in the many friends and family who loved him. His teachings and wisdom will be eternally etched in the hearts and minds of those who knew him. Sic Nick shall always remain a bright light in this world.
