April 26, 1957 - April 16, 2021
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Roberto Vicario Vegas on April 16, 2021.
Roberto was an exceptionally bright and artistic man with an infectious exuberance that touched
the lives of many people. Roberto was born in Burgos, Spain. At the age of 5, Roberto moved to
Paris with his parents and grew up on Rue de la Huchette directly across the Seine River from
Notre Dame Cathedral. Roberto attended Ecole Saint Jacques and later the prestigious Lycée
Henri IV. Upon finishing his education, Roberto worked several years for a Parisian talent
agency called Artes Media where he became friends with stars such as Catherine Deneuve,
Gérard Depardieu, Daniel Auteil, and others.
In his twenties Roberto moved to the United States, a country he felt allowed for great political
and creative freedom. For decades Roberto sold photographic equipment at Discount Camera
on Kearny Street. Personally, Roberto loved motorcycles, traveling, films, jazz, and above all,
street photography. In 1998 Roberto married Rebecca Bradley of Marin. In 2000, Roberto and
Rebecca moved to his hometown of Burgos, Spain where they enjoyed nine marvelous years
surrounded by family and friends. During that time, Roberto’s photographic work was exhibited
in Burgos to the praise of all. In 2009, Roberto and Rebecca returned to San Francisco where
he continued to make new friendships in the city he loved.
Roberto is survived by Rebecca Bradley of San Francisco, his sister Begoña Vicario Vegas of
Madrid, and his brother Fernando Vicario Vegas of Burgos.
A celebration of Roberto’s life will be held at the Columbarium located at 1 Lorraine Court in San
Francisco on Sunday, May 16th at 1:30 p.m.. If you wish to send flowers, Roberto loved white
Cala Lilies.
