Ron was born and raised in Monterey except for a brief middle school detour in Boston. As a teen he was a fixture at his father's downtown Carmel gas station. From there he went off to architectural schools at the University of Washington and graduated from Oregon.
While serving in the Army he spent most of his time in the typing pool in Germany plus traveling around Europe where he met his future wife on a Spanish beach. In 1980 they reunited and married in San Francisco City Hall.
His architectural career started in the Sausalito office of Don Olsen & Associates where he was the office go-to-man for answers to any technical or local lore questions. In 1985 he formed the partnership of Walter & Wager. Between the two offices he was responsible for hundreds of homes and commercial projects throughout Marin County and beyond.
One of his joys was sailing either on his own boat or crewing on other boats racing on the Bay. He spent time living on house boats in Sausalito before moving to West Marin, Tiburon and finally settling in San Francisco.
As a sought out regular at Liverpool Lil's and then the Final Final he will be sorely missed by the old gang. He was welcoming and quick to listen and to share stories, especially about architecture.
Preceded in death by his parents and dear sister Bonnie, survived by his beloved wife Marit as well as many nieces and nephews in Norway.
